The weather here has stayed cold, so I went looking for ice crystals again yesterday. I was lucky to find them on the same hike. This shot of ice-covered leaves reminds me of gingerbread cookies. Photographed on January 19, 2009.

We went hiking on Saturday, and I found some really amazing ice crystals once we got up out of the valley. Unfortunately I didn’t have my tripod with me, since this was a family outing, so I had to shoot this handheld. I didn’t watch my shutter speed carefully and ended up with a touch of motion blur. I could probably print this at 8×10, but no larger. Oh well, I still really like the composition. Photographed on January 18, 2009.

I was photographing this dramatic sunset, when a hawk happened to fly into the frame. It provided the extra element that I was looking for. Photographed on January 11, 2009.

I like how the evening star is balanced in the composition by the lights of the two ships out at sea. Photographed on January 9, 2009.

This image was taken about forty minutes after sunset, but there was still quite a lot of color in the sky that was reflecting onto the wet sand. Photographed on January 9, 2009.
